Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
